I had a lot of tomatoes from the garden last week and wanted to make some salsa that would be similar to what we buy at the store. So I found a recipe for Thick Tomato Salsa on this website. It's really good salsa!

I've been meaning to share this layout for a long time. I made it over a year ago. To make the photo grid, I cropped the photos I wanted to use to 2 1/2 inch squares, placed them in a Photoshop document with some white space between them, and printed them out.

Papertrey Ink Origami Challenge

The Papertrey Ink challenge today is to incorporate origami into a project. So I made a little pinwheel out of a piece of My Mind's Eye paper and put a brad through the center to hold it together. The stick is actually two toothpicks glued together. I stamped the flower background using one the stamps from the 'Life' set and Versamark ink.

I entered this little card and am so excited that I made it into the top 25 entries! To make the card, I used my Purple Cows Freestyle Mouse with the straight blade (Click Blade #2801) to cut the green woodgrain patterned paper from Cosmo Cricket's Mr Campy Collection to look like grassy hills.

I also used the same blade to cut the tree trunk from kraft paper that I had stamped with a Hero Arts woodgrain stamp.

I used the squiggle blade (Click Blade #2808) to cut the tree from green paper and attached it with dimensional tape.

The giraffe and bird from the Jungle Pals stamp set by Sassafras were stamped onto white cardstock, cut out, and attached with dimensional tape. Finally, I stamped the sentiment by Hero Arts in the lower right corner. The Freestyle Mouse is really easy to use. The blades cut smoothly and are easy to change. It also has a safety feature that keeps the blade raised when it's not being used. A handy feature to have in a house with two busy little boys who like to climb.

This is a super simple card I made a while back, using just stamps, ink and some pop dots. I stamped the flowers onto cream cardstock, then cut them out and inked the edges with distress ink. I adhered them with pop dots to give them some dimension. Quick and easy!

Flowery Birthday Card

I saw some pretty layered flowers by Prima a while back and immediately thought how easy it would be to make some of my own. So I did. I found a few Prima flowers in different sizes, curled up the petals, and glued them together. I layered 5 flowers to make the big purple flower and 2 flowers to make the small pink flower. I'm going to experiment with this technique some more and see what else I can come up with. It's a lot of fun.

I freehand cut the stems from green cardstock by Die Cuts With a View. The leaves were punched with a circle punch and then I drew the stitches on with a Signo white gel pen. The sentiment stamp is from the Hero Arts Birthday Sayings set.

Some digital cards

I took a little break from scrapbooking and card-making this summer and fall as things were really busy around here, but I'm slowly getting back to it. So here are some simple digital cards I made using a dingbat font called DB Forest Friends from www.scrapnfonts.com. Dingbat fonts are great because they give you so many options. You can resize and recolor them any way you like. The font that I used for the sentiment is one of my favorites, called Smiley Monster.

Kitchen Sink Stamps KS Crew Challenge #13

I made this quick and simple card for the KS Crew Challenge at the Kitchen Sink Stamps blog. The challenge was to include a hand-cut image. I stamped the sentiment from the Never a Loss 4 Words set in Versamark and embossed it with white embossing powder. The stars are from the Playful Stars set. I cut them out and adhered them with pop dots. The pattern on the blue star is from the Playful Frames and Journaling set. The blue star is also stamped and embossed with white powder.

Caardvarks challenge

The challenge this week on the Caardvarks blog was to make a card with a verse or quote on it. I used this quote stamp from the Papertrey Ink Garden of Life set. I cut a label from some My Mind's Eye paper using the largest of the Labels 1 Nestabilities dies, adhered it to the pink paper, and then cut closely around the label with scissors to make a mat with the pink paper. To make the flower, I punched a scalloped circle out of pink paper and cut along the inside of the scallops to make them look like petals, then curled the edges under to give it some dimension. I added a blue Prima flower and a white button to finish it off. The ribbon is American Crafts.

Got Sketch #79

Got Sketch is having a 2nd birthday celebration on their blog all month long with fun challenges and sketches. I made this card based on sketch #79. I decided to go with a monochromatic card. Sometimes that's easier for me than using several different colors! I stamped a flower from the Artistic Borders set by Hero Arts on green paper, cut it out and crinkled it up to give it dimension. The small polka dot flowers were cut out freehand and I finished each one off with a button. The sentiment is from Hero Arts' Thank You Messages set and is stamped with Colorbox chalk ink in chestnut.

Kristina Werner Color Inspiration Challenge #45

This is my first time participating in a Kristina Werner Color Inspiration Challenge. I've been a lurker for a long time and this week it just worked out well that I needed to make a wedding card and these colors were perfect! I stamped the flowers and sentiment with VersaMark, then embossed with white embossing powder. I was going for a very simple and clean style, so I didn't want to add too much more, just a little touch of white and grey at the bottom.
